No list of contemporary soul tunes would be complete without one or two tracks from Jamie Lidell. The US based British soul singer is renowned for his edgy vocals and ear catching hooks which are often conceived using just his voice and a loop station.
Jamie has recorded 7 studio albums since 2000 including the quite out-there Beck collaboration “Compass” but for us the gateway track has to be 2005’s “Multiply”. Slick and catchy with pop overtones…..but with so many melodic throwbacks to the golden days of soul it demands constant re-listening.
Plus if you watch the video in low enough resolution…..he almost looks like Will Ferrell. Click and listen!
No UK tour dates lined up any time soon but if they appear…you’ll be the first to know.
