The Jazz Cafe is one of the real big beasts on the London soul scene. Founded in 1990, this 420 capacity space in Camden Town has played host to all manner of soul legends including Ben E King, Edwin Starr, Lynn Collins, Martha Reeves and many many more. While the venue is not exclusively soul and has a diverse booking policy, it is still one of the top venues in town for live soul music.
As well as notable touring artists, the Jazz Cafe also has regular tribute nights focusing on specific soul artists and albums from days gone by. These bands are formed of highly skilled session musicians who pay effortless homage to the source material.
The venue has live music almost every night of the week, though is occasionally closed Mon/Tues/Wed depending on who’s in town. They also have an upstairs area where you can order food. While we have never eaten there, the venue is run by the same company as The Blues Kitchen so you can expect a high standard.
